Door Inspired Wall Art

Handmade door inspired Wall Art

Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors where there were only walls.

~ Joseph Campbell

There are at present fourteen different door inspired wall art pieces for sale on the website. The range will be growing as I seek new inspiration, and I am currently working on two new designs. My ongoing policy is to produce a range of original works which differ in size, and in the complexity of building and carving. This is in order to be able to produce some pieces for sale that can be accessed more affordably within people’s means than some others which carry a somewhat higher price.

I started this enterprise intending that they are available to a wide range of people who are interested in acquiring a true and genuine limited edition artwork. Everything is made by hand using a variety of small hand tools. There is no computer input of any kind as that is not the way I like to work, as I personably believe it intrinsically devalues an artists output. Admittedly this is only my personal viewpoint, but I value the handmade and handmade qualities, and I like the human touch present throughout the creative process.

The colours used are acrylic paints and inks. I paint using several sizes of brush, including some very small ones. I actually use a hand rotating stand to paint them on as it means easy access is available from all sides, and when painting ‘in the round’ you need that freedom to apply colour from several angles, unlike painting a canvas on an easel.

Each door wall art design is available to buy in four different formats, and these are as follows:

  1. In natural white and unpainted form.
This is the most accessible option cost wise, but they will still look stunning on display, and will work in contemporary style home interiors as well as in more traditional setttings.
  2. With a sepia style watercolour ‘wash’.
3 or 4 colours only are used in order to emulate a watercolour. Typically the colours will be muted and follow natural earth tones like ochre’s, sienna’s and umbers.
  3. A full and highly detailed colour rendering.
The finish is matt and has a rich depth of highlight, shade and shadow. The colour rendering takes a long time and no two will ever be exactly alike which makes them unique in their own right. With an order it is also possible to choose a certain palette of your own choice. E.g, a choice of door/shutter colour.
